2012 WAS A GREAT YEAR for both the Association and for the College with positive outlooks and upticks in our numbers. Referrals have increased, including more legacy visits and applicants. We have 20 legacy students in the first-year class. Annual support from alumnae and alumni continues to make impressive strides. In 2011–2012, giving to the Annual Fund, an important barometer of the institution’s financial health, totaled nearly $2.18 million, an increase of 19 percent over the previous year. Alumnae and alumni participation in giving increased another two percentage points to 22 percent. Also of note is the 100 percent giving rate of May’s graduating seniors. I feel very optimistic for 2013.

The Association coordinated 30 events with a student panel video this fall (thanks to all our hostesses). We have articulate and academically strong students. If you were unable to attend one of the events but would like to watch the student panel (25 minutes), please go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPhUw8_Ko4I

I am pleased that we feature an Alumnae Achievement Award recipient in this issue of the Bulletin. She is the only alumna who can say she moderated a presidential debate. I know you will enjoy reading about Candy and the other alumnae and alumni who are included in these pages.

In an effort to enhance the College’s main publications and to allow the Office of Alumnae and Alumni to focus its attention on connecting us with the College, there was agreement to adjust how the Bulletin is produced to utilize the staff and resources that exist in the Office of College Relations. I will continue to oversee the Bulletin. Brenda Edson, director of communications and editor of Randolph magazine, will serve as the Bulletin editor; Bryan Gentry, the College writer, will provide writing support; and Phebe Williamson Wescott ’78, regional events and class secretary manager, will manage Class Notes, Association news and announcements, and alumnae and alumni information. The Bulletin will now be published twice a year.

The Alumnae and Alumni Office staff now represents over four decades with six alumnae staff members.
